Overview

RICO DENDY, also known simply as "Rico", is a digital catgirl fascinated with old technology, especially that of the NES and it's PSG and wave-based audio. Loving the sounds of both old and new chiptune music, Rico would love to become a producer of chiptune herself, one day!

Rico is a character inspired by the sounds and aesthetics of modern chiptune/psg composers and related media, such as Kira Kira Star Night. Her namesake is Ricoh, developers of the soundchip used in the Nintendo Entertainment System, alongside the Dendy, an unlicensed equivalent to the Famicom sold in former Soviet territories.

As a character vocal, she is based on general character singers, including previous vocaloids like Rana and Una, UTAULoids such as Asane Sana, and mascot characters, like Di Gi Charat. Her appends; TOYBOX, LIGHTSHOW and DREAMLAND, are named to evoke the moods of multiple cult classic NES games, particularly Ufouria, Gimmick!, and Cocoron.

Rico CVVC

Rico's first voicebank is a Tripitch CVVC, and is currently available for download! This voicebank uses the Delta CVVC 8-Mora reclist and is recorded in three pitches - D4, G#4, and D5. The voicebank is recorded in a cute, voice-acted style, with a slightly nasally and "throaty" voice. Despite this, she can still hold a sturdy tone in lower ranges, and would be classed as a Mezzo-soprano vocalist.

Rico can be downloaded here:

It is recommended to use either the default resampler or moresampler with Rico, as this is what she was tested with. It is also recommended to shift her GEN flag to somewhere between g-5 to g-20, though this isn't required.

Rico Appends

While Rico's CVVC is standalone, there are two appends planned for her, able to be used standalone or within her base voicebank:

  • LIGHTSHOW: a "cool" strong tone of voice, made to sound fierce and edgy, within Rico's established tone of voice.
  • DREAMLAND: a softer, calmer tone of voice, made to sound more fit for lullabies and quiet sections of songs compared to Rico's usual energetic tone. Is planned to be Tripitch, with identical pitches to Rico's base voicebank. Also incldes an extra expression, "WHISPER", tied to the "W" suffix. WHISPER is monopitch and recorded at E4.

Rico CV

A CV voicebank was also produced for Rico, in the same tone as her CVVC voicebank. Rico CV is monopitch, recorded in a Rentan format, and includes several sounds to assist in loanwords.

Future Developments

An RVC model is in consideration, to be trained off of tuned UTAU output. Further details are undecided.
